Right after the song “My Way” was released in 1969 under Frank Sinatra’s album of the same title, numerous stories came up regarding how the song was somehow related to several incidents. Though it was widely accepted by the public upon its release, it has brought about a tone of sadness and/or determination, and since then has always been a choice when it comes to sending a message of farewell. Be it in funerals, a simple goodbye, a tribute, or as a personal song for deep sadness. In some accounts, it has also been associated with accounts of suicide.
Throughout time, “My Way” has gained so much attention that even songs of the present generations are based on it. In the song “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi, there’s a line that’s says “… my life is a broken highway… like Frankie said I did it my way”. This alone is evident enough to say how much the song has been made into an audio icon.
To some though, the song is accepted in a negative way, as it is said to have been one of the last songs listened or requested and its lines or its entirety was said to be the last things written by some people have committed suicide.
In some ways I can say that it has become a classic way of saying farewell.
But what is it about the song that made it gain its reputation? Why do people react that way? Is it really meant to give that message? Or did we just interpret the song the wrong way?
These are just some of the questions, whose answers have yet to be made.
