Causes of Depression

People suffering from depression have imbalances of neurotransmitters, natural substances that allow brain cells to communicate with each other. The neurotransmitters are serotonin and norepinephrine. A deficiency in serotonin can cause sleep problems, irritability, and anxiety. Likewise, a decreased amount in norepinephrine, which regulates alertness and arousal, can contribute to fatigue and depressed mood of the illness.

Genetic

Environmental situations, such as stress or break up of important attachments, can precipitate depression, especially for vulnerable persons.
