After a series of injuries to its key players and a 3-game losing streak, Jack Nicholson and the rest of the Laker fans finally have something to rejoice about.
The Lakers management dealt with Kwame Brown, rookie Javaris Crittenton, re-signed Aaron McKie, and 2008 and 2010 first-round draft picks for Pau Gasol and a second rounder from Memphis. The trade also includes draft rights to Pau’s brother, Marc Gasol, a transaction involving two brothers, a first in NBA history.
The Lakers now have a line-up that could go against the stronger Western conference teams and improve its chances in contending for the coveted NBA Championship. Gasol fortifies the frontline of the Lakers until Andrew Bynum comes back from injury and most importantly, gets rid of the pressure on Kobe Bryant who’s consistently harassed by double and triple teams.
An excellent passer and wing shooter, Gasol won’t have a hard time coping-up with Phil Jackson’s triangle offense. With the trade, the Lakers now have a frontline of an emerging powerhouse in Bynum (7’1), the talented Gasol (7’0) and the versatile Lamar Odom (6’10) alongside veteran Derek Fisher at the point and the league’s best player, Kobe Bryant as shooting guard plus a deep bench roster that includes Ronny Turiaf, Luke Walton, Trevor Ariza, Sasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmar, Chris Mihm, and Vladimir Radmanovic.
Kudos to the management for pulling-off a great trade. Los Angeles Lakers for the championship!
